As the leaves change color and the weather becomes enjoyable instead of unbearable in Manhattan, there are numerous events and fundraisers held inside and outside for the residents of Manhattan. Now that you've settled in, seen all your friends, and gotten back into the swing of doing schoolwork, take some time to take advantage of going to school in the city.

On October 16th the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societies Manhattan chapter will host the Light the Night Walk. Walking across Brooklyn Bridge into lower Manhattan, volunteers will raise money and awareness for the fight against blood cancers. Check-in will begin at 5:30 in South Street Seaport, with a remembrance mass at 6:15, on opening ceremony at 6:45 and the walk beginning at 7. Rachel Ray will be presenting the 7th annual My Dog Loves Central Park Country Fair on October 18th, in the middle of central park (use the 72nd street entrances.) Even if you don't have a dog you are invited to enjoy food, games, and entertainment in one of the most famous parks in the country.

From October 16-18th the Fashion Center BID will host the 4th annual Arts Festival: Fashion District (35-41st St.. between 5th and 9th Ave.) Over the three days there will be more than 200 visual artists, 8 performances including some off-Broadway performances, gallery exhibits, avant-garde performance art, and behind-the-scenes tours of artists' studios. You can also learn hands-on basic pottery and printmaking. And, of course, there will be a diverse offering of foods and snacks.

The Modern Show gives artists from around the world an opportunity to display, and sell, their furniture, art, jewelry, books, photography, ceramics, posters, glass, silver, and more to Manhattanites. It will take place this year at the 69th Regiment Armory at Lexington and 26th , October 17-19th.

The International Vintage Poster Fair will also take place October 17-19 at The Gallery at The Metropolitan Pavilion. Dealers from 6 different countries will sell more than 10,000 original-version vintage posters. They will be open Friday afternoon, and all day Saturday and Sunday so take the 1 train down to 18th street and get some more decorations for your dorm room.
