They remain hidden, unseen, seeded throughout communities in the New York area, the ill, those too sick to get themselves basic necessities. Things like food and social interaction are absent in the lives of these people as they silently cry out for help. Luckily, one organization has answered their desperate pleas. Rooted from the MC Campus Ministry and Social Action, God's Love We Deliver is a program that provides nutritious meals to those homebound with chronic illnesses. Originally targeted to help AIDS sufferers, the NYC based organization has now expanded to assist those with cancer, Parkinson's disease, and other debilitating illnesses. MC has just celebrated its thirteenth year of this program.

Founded in 1986 by Ganga Stone and Jane Best, God's Love We Deliver has grown significantly since delivering a mere fifty meals by bicycle. Schools like MC and other institutions have now become involved in this life-changing program as the organization spreads across New York. Hot meals and desserts are prepared by the God's Love We Deliver headquarters and transported to MC every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Student volunteers deliver the meals to the residents of the homebound from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. "It's nice to get out and help people," says Sandra Sanchez, chaperone of the club. Student volunteer Sarah Murphy especially likes the "fulfilling relationships" made with those to whom she delivers food. Students and faculty alike find this experience particularly rewarding; the joy and gratitude on the beneficiaries' faces is most meaningful and touching, a true "feel good" experience.

Like sunshine after a storm, these volunteers shed light on the sick, helping and bestowing hope with each and every service trip. The 15th Annual Race to Deliver fundraiser will be held on November 16th in Central Park. For more information visit the official website, http://www.godslovewedeliver.org/.

God's Love We Deliver gives the chronically ill a voice in a world which often is deaf to their pleas. Students who are interested can sign up with Campus Ministry and Social Action located in Cornerstone 209, or contact Sandra Sanchez at Ssanchez01.student@manhattan.edu.
