Although Standing Together took a few semesters off, they are indeed back together. A club here at MC, Standing Together aims (according to the handbook) to "foster education to all, but not exclusively for, the college's community of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people." But, to members of the group it's more than that.

The club aims to raise awareness and make those on campus feel welcome and accepted, hoping to convince some that it is safe to come out, giving them a place to go and feel comfortable on campus. To do this, Standing Together has come up with an event sure to open some closet doors.

This week, Standing Together will be holding a PostSecret event, collecting secrets from the campus. Although PostSecret founder Frank Warren won't be on campus, the group hopes that people will still turn in their secrets. By collecting and posting these secrets around campus, group member Sean Duffy wants the "deep secrets to show the closeted gay community that being gay isn't a secret, it is who you are." The posted secrets, he hopes, will show that people have far deeper secrets, varying from funny or tragic.

Whether members of the club or not, everyone on campus is encouraged to participate. Standing Together hopes to compile enough secrets to decorate the quad on October 10th; the day before national coming-out day. On coming out day, those of the LGBT community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) commonly wear gay pride symbols- a pink triangle for men, a black triangle for women, the Greek Lambda sign, and of course rainbows. This year will be the 20th annual celebration, with a growth in popularity every year.

With this event, the MC club will kick off their year with a success and hopefully attract more members. Standing Together will be collecting anonymous secrets both outside and inside Dante's Den, so make sure to stop by with any secret, big or small.
