Senior Class Events
Senior Class Officers
Issue date: 10/8/08 Section: Op Ed
To the Senior Class,
After receiving several emails from members of the senior class, we would like to take this chance to inform the Class of 2009 about the upcoming senior class events, as well as senior week events.
As senior class officers, we have been working on some great events for the seniors so that we can get together as an entire class and celebrate our last year at Manhattan College. Our first event was Casino Night, and we feel that it went very well. Everyone had a great time playing casino games for a chance to win some amazing prizes, not to mention the time everyone got to spend with their friends. We are so happy that this event was such a success!
Some other upcoming events are a trip to Mohegan Sun on November 1, a ski trip to Hunter Mountain in February and an event to celebrate the 100 nights before graduation at Lucky Strike bowling alley. We are so excited about these events, and we hope all the seniors will be too because not only are they are all under $20.00, but we know everyone will have a great time! More details about these events will follow as the dates get closer.
However, we are aware of some concerns of the seniors right now in regards to the events of Senior Week. While the senior events that take place throughout the year are extremely important, we know that Senior Week is what is most important to most seniors. Senior Week begins Wednesday night after the last final exam and ends with graduation on Sunday. We have a variety of events planned for those few days, one of them being the classic Senior Formal. We have planned Senior Formal this year on a yacht which will sail around Manhattan. We know several students expressed concern that this would be similar to the Spring Fling boat cruise. However, this is a private boat charter company that is very different from the Spirit Cruises, which is the boat used for Spring Fling. It is a four story yacht equipped with three dance floors, three bars and an amazing top deck which serves as a dance floor. In addition to all that, we are planning on having a light show and a video that will show pictures of the Class of 2009 throughout our four years here at Manhattan together. By using the yacht instead of another venue, we have taken a significant amount of the cost of tickets away from the students. Last year formal cost $125.00 per person, whereas this year it will only cost $80.00 per person. In making this decision, we are not only looking to save the seniors' money, but we also want everyone to remember this event as a great way of ending their college years.
