Commuter students: How's parking? Is it tough getting in earlier than necessary just for a parking spot, either on campus or even on the street? Wouldn't it be nice if there was a little more free space on campus and one centralized location for parking? Maybe a seven floor parking garage would do.

Mr. John Daley, Vice President of Finances at Manhattan College, recently unveiled the plan for a seven floor garage to be built in an "undisclosed location" here at Manhattan College. In the Presidential Conference Room and in his office, Mr. Daley spent time describing the project.

According to Mr. Daley and a detailed project fact sheet, the parking garage will have seven floors. The bottom floor will house a full service Pathmark and 195 parking spots for Pathmark customers. The next five floors are enclosed just as any parking garage would be, topped off by a seventh rooftop parking level. These top six levels will provide 738 parking spots for Manhattan College students only. In total, the parking garage will house a total of 933 parking spaces.

The parking garage will be located where the Broadway lot and Paulian Hall currently are. Paulian Hall, also known as the Physical Plant, will be demolished and the garage will be placed directly over it. The current back stairwell from Manhattan College Parkway to the Broadway lot will be diverted into a car bridge that will connect Manhattan College Parkway with the second floor of the garage. A pedestrian footbridge will also be added to allow safe passage for pedestrians over Manhattan College Parkway and into the garage. One end of the footbridge will be connected either directly to Hayden Hall or just off to the side in between Hayden and the O'Malley Library. There will be a brick tower constructed near the entrance to Hayden Hall that will also be connected to the footbridge. This tower will house an elevator and stairwell to make the bridge accessible from ground level. The opposite end of the footbridge will connect directly into the second floor of the parking garage.
