While most are gearing up for the chilly months ahead by bringing out coats, scarves, and wooly sweaters, the fashion world is already preparing for spring. September 8-15 marked one of the biggest weeks of the year in the world of high fashion: New York City Fashion Week. The 80 plus fashion shows featured the spring collections from the biggest designers in the industry, as well as the up and coming labels known only to fashion insiders. Held in midtown under tents in Bryant Park, some designers aimed to make a political statement as well, and others, such as Kenneth Cole, simply encouraged attendees to go out and vote. The true focus of the week, however, were the clothes.

The true highlight of Herrera's show was, as always, her knack for elegant, chic and simple dresses, made of jersey or silk crepe, and cut just so it ever so lightly skims the body and floats like air as you walk. This collection was one of her best; it had that perfect blend of elegance and chic sensibility, with a dash of lightheartedness to keep the clothes from becoming too serious or stuffy. The model's styling also reflected this theme; hair was worn pulled away from the face, but still loose and natural, embodying the effortless style that she has become so well known for among fashion's top critics. Bright prints and unique color combinations were also a highlight of the show
