Board of Trustees Accepts New Members

Hector Gonzalez, Clare A. Cunniffe, and Michael J. McGinniss, have recently been elected to the Manhattan College Board of Trustees. Hector Gonzalez, of Pelham, New York, graduated Manhattan College in 1985 with a B.S. in psychology. He also holds a degree in law from the University of Pennsylvania as well as a master's degree in criminal justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Born in Cuba, Mr. Gonzalez immigrated to the United States in 1969. He is a member of the New York City Civilian Complaint Board, and has been chair since 2002 upon appointment by Mayor Bloomberg, who praised Mr. Gonzalez for his work as a distinguished lawyer.
Mr. Gonzalez's law career certainly is impressive. A partner at the Mayer, Brown, Rowe, and Maw law firm, his practice includes complex commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense, serving 65 of the 100 Fortune 500 companies, including clients such as Bank One, Bank of America, General Electric, and Pfizer. He started his career in law at Roger & Wells, and later accepted a position as an assistant district attorney for New York County. He went on to become an assistant U.S. attorney for the southern district of
New York as deputy chief, then chief, of the narcotics unit. Mr. Gonzalez is a member of the Association of the Bar in the City of New York, the Federal Bar Council, and the Hispanic National Bar Association. He is a member of the New York State Federal Judicial Screening Committee and the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund. Mr. Gonzalez was also recently inducted into the Independent Sector Alumni Hall of Distinction, along with 13 other honorees, for their contribution to the State of New York though their careers and public service.
Clare A. Cunniffe, of Bayport, New York, is a Manhattan graduate as well. She graduated in 1981 with a degree in computer information systems and marketing. Ms. Cunniffe then went on to become a programmer for IBM's manufacturing systems department. She is currently serving as vice president of security solutions at Computer Associates International, and is a member of the advisory board for the School of Business. Ms. Cunniffe is also involved in the Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women, the Long Island Software and Technology Network, as well as Women in Technology International. She received the Long Island Center's 2002 Achievers Award in business and technology and is a frequent speaker in the industry.
