Senior Mike Brady recently resigned his position as secretary in the Manhattan College Senate. This came after the Clark Foundation awarded him a fellowship. It will give him a chance to become a successful leader in the area of non- profit organizations. As Brady goes on to bigger and better things, he is left with the task of training future leaders to take his place. He said, "You can always tell a good leader by the leaders that come after them, because the first job of any leader is to groom the next generation of leadership. I think I've groomed the leaders for the next two or three years to be the best." Brady decided the best way for that to happen would be to remain in the Senate, but let a future leader take his position as Secretary. "I still wanted to be there to make sure the transition went smoothly. By resigning now, someone else can take my role of leader," he said. Resigning his position of Secretary of State was a tough decision, but ultimately the right one for the benefit of Manhattan College.

Brady wants to provide his services to beginners in his last year here by serving as a consultant to clubs and organizations to promote good leadership. The number of positions Brady has held is impressive, which explains his desire to help the inexperienced. His service as Speaker of the Legislature last year helped pave the way for that division to be more effective. Brady said, "Restoring the power of the legislature from the heavy- handed executive board was something I hope the legislator will continue so it can be a stronger branch of government." Brady learned that politics in Manhattan College can be frustrating but during the second semester as Speaker of Legislature, through various compromises, the legislature had the most productive term to recent memory. Among others, the Legislature passed the LaSallian Action Committee, the Quadrangle Newspaper Independence Bill, monetary allocation, Literacy Month, and several constitutional amendments to refine the constitution that Brady himself wrote sophomore year. After the success as Speaker of the Legislature, Brady decided to throw his hat in the ring for Student Body President his senior year. There were some discrepancies in the voting process and he lost by a mere 1%. Supporters are still baffled. Some have compared the election to that of 2000, when Bush became president of our nation by a small percentage of votes as well.

Fans of Brady need not worry; he isn't completely out of the game. Brady attained status as senior senator for the college wide senate, which consists of faculty, students, staff, and alumni. He also has a seat on the Board of Trustees Strategic Planning Committee. If any amateurs need advice from an experienced leader, then Brady is their man.
