Perspectives: Bush Vs Kerry Part 1

Still, William P.

Issue date: 10/6/04 Section: Perspectives
The Presidential Election in the United States of America is a very important event. Voters go to the polls and make a decision that will control the fate of our great country for the next four years. Because this choice is crucial to the direction of the country, it is imperative that people make an informed and well educated vote. In this week's editorial I will lay out, what I believe, the most important thing President George W. Bush stands for and why Mr. Kerry, in my opinion, is unfit to be President of these great United States.

President Bush has many plans and objectives set out for his second term as leader of the free world. These goals are clearly explained in Agenda for America, A Plan For A Safer World And More Hopeful America. I am going to take the issue that I feel is most important from this 47 page publication. If anyone wishes to further investigate other issues feel free to visit www.georgewbush.com/media/agendaforamerica.pdf.

"Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, President Bush has taken the fight to the terrorists. After September 11, the President put the world on notice that we will hold any person or regime that harbors or supports terrorists as guilty of terrorism as the terrorists themselves." "America will not wait for new threats to grow and fester. We will face new challenges - swiftly, surely, and with steely resolve. We cannot forget that the terrorists remain determined to kill as many Americans as possible, both abroad and here at home, and would like nothing more than to use the world's most deadly weapons against us. With such an enemy, no negotiated peace is possible; no policy of containment or deterrence will prove effective." "We will either fight the terrorists abroad, or face the consequences at home." p33 Agenda for America

While all the major issues were addressed in the Agenda for America; the War on Terror, in my opinion, takes precedence. I feel that everything we have in this country is directly related to how the War on Terror ends. By this I mean, if we do not take the hard struggle of terrorism on now there may not be a US as we know it here for us. I know this is a harsh reality to imagine, but if the terrorists had their way each and every American would be killed. They don't care whether you are a Republican or Democrat; all they care about is that you are an American. Take a look back to September 11th 2001, the terrorists didn't care who they murdered. Three-thousand ordinary people were murdered because they were enjoying the freedoms of this great country. The terrorists want to destroy our freedoms and our way of life. This cannot and will not be allowed! George W. Bush will not give the terrorists the opportunity to take our freedoms from us.
