On Friday October 15th, Manhattan Madness will bring students, alums, and 2004-2005 Men and Women basketball players to Draddy Gym for a night of celebrations. The annual event celebrates the beginning of the men's and women's basketball
seasons. It will feature free activities and promises to be bigger and better than last year because of continuous planning.

Junior Antonia Conti, Vice President of Social Life, and senior Blair Lampe, Vice President for Residence Affairs, have organized an array of evening activities. A tailgate party will begin at 9 PM in Walsh Plaza. It will be hosted by Z100's Party Patrol and will include food and live music by Q-Ball.

Z100's Greg T., who was present last year, will return, and prizes will be given away. A bouncy castle will be set up outside the gym and the cheerleaders and Jasper dancers are scheduled to perform.
Antonia Conti, one of the key people involved in planning the night, said, "It's basically a large pep rally held to introduce the basketball teams. Because it is held at the same time as family weekend, there will be tons of games and activities. There will be wacky contests, half court shots, and a chance to win a brand new car. It's going to be good."

Conti continued, "Blair and I have been planning it since the summer. We've been working for endless hours to make this a spectacular. This year, we're expecting more people and more games, and we're hoping it won't rain. A secret farm animal will also be there. But nobody will find out about that until October 15th. It will be udder madness! "

Although the entire night is packed with excitement, midnight is the evening's climax. According to NCAA rules, the basketball teams cannot practice before 12:00 a.m. on October 15th.

"So," says, Conti, "They literally can't come out
before midnight. But at 12:00 AM, the teams run onto the court and everybody goes crazy. It's great!"

Sophomore Lara Longo, who attended Manhattan Madness last year, remarked, "It was a lot of fun even though it rained all night. It was cool to see everyone in a really spirited mood."

Freshman Alison Bomba said, "Even though I've never gone before, I'm excited for Manhattan Madness. All the upperclassmen say it's a great time, and I can't wait for basketball season to begin-I'm a big fan of the sport. I also think that the season will unify the whole school- it will really bring the campus community together."

Manhattan Madness is a long-standing tradition.

"It's been going on for years," says Conti. "We have it every year on the Friday evening before the teams begin official practices. Last year's turnout probably would've been even better if it hadn't rained. We're hoping for nice weather this time around."

The night will be enjoyable because of the committee's effort, and all are encouraged to
attend with high Jasper spirit.
