Student Dies in Fenway Celebration
Boston, MA- 21-year-old Victoria Snelgrove of East Bridgewater, MA was killed Wednesday night celebrating the Red Sox win over the Yankees. After running to Landsdowne Street in Kenmore Square behind Fenway, Victoria stayed to watch the fans from all around Boston celebrate the victory. As the riot got out of control and fans burnt a car with New York license plates, the Boston Police Department sent in their Riot Control Unit.
It quickly turned in to a safety precaution turned bad when the unit began firing mace covered rubber bullets into the menacing crowd to slow the riot. Snelgrove, a student at Emerson College in Boston, was only watching the crowd when one of the bullets stuck her in the eye, causing a fatal injury. "She loved the Red Sox," said Victoria's father Richard Snelgrove. "She went in [to town] to celebrate with friends, she was a bystander."
The Boston Police Department expressed their deepest condolences for the procedural mistake. "The Boston Police Department is devastated by this tragedy. This terrible event should never have happened," said BPD commissioner Kathleen O'Toole. The Snelgrove family will not be pressing any charges against the city as the terrible incident was clearly a mistake. The members of the ALCS Red Sox are now creating a public service announcement telling young students that violence is not the correct way to celebrate a victory.
Bomb Threats lead to Arrest in California
Sacramento, CA- Jomer Manzanilla, 20, of California, was arrested last week for making over 30 bomb threats across two counties in Northern California.
Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Manzanilla called businesses from the District Attorney's Office, a dental office, and his former high school. "He might of had some problems with reality, might have been seeing some things, hearing some voices, might of had some emotional problems," said neighbor Jim Yocum.
"One of the businesses was able to capture the number via caller ID. With that, we were able to run the number and find out exactly what that location was, which was off Wente Way in south Sacramento County," said R.L. Davis of the Sacramento County Sheriff's office.
Manzanilla now faces 30 counts of terrorist acts as well as several other minor charges.
Body Found in Landing Gear Compartment
Detroit, MI- A security breach was made this past week on American Airlines Flight 926 from the Dominican Republic to Miami. The body of a man was found in the landing gear of the plane when it was brought to the hanger in Michigan.
"There's a security hole big enough to drive a tank through here," said C. William Kaufman, an aviation expert from the University of Michigan. "Literally, heads should roll over this, and not the little rent-a-cop at the gate, but people who make policy."
The body wasn't discovered until a maintenance worker was changing one of the landing tires and found the dead man. American Airlines and the Transport Safety are now investigating the breech, but would not make any other comments.
