The surprise Jets looked to end the Pats win streak of 20 in a row with a win. Unfortunately they fell just slightly short. The Patriots defeated the Jets with a score of 13-7. The Jets record falls to a very impressive 5-1, while the Patriots remain undefeated at 6-0.
With the win over the Jets the Pats are now on an impressive 21 game win streak, which dates back to the regular season last year.
It would be an understatement to say that this was a defensive game. Neither team was able to score in the second half. The defense for both teams was nothing short of spectacular in the second half.
With the first drive of the game the Patriots were able to get on the board. Adam Vinatieri knocked down a 41-yard first quarter field goal to go up 3-0. The Jets first drive of the game did not end as well as the Patriots'. Chad Pennington's pass to Jerald Sowell went to the New England 15 where Sowell fumbled. The Patriots' Ted Johnson recovered the fumble.
The Patriots struck again in the second quarter. After the Sowell turnover New England drove down the field to gain another three points. Vinatieri connected with a 27-yard field goal to go up 6-0.
The Jets seemed determined to get into the end zone on their next drive. Pennington drove his team down the field with13 plays. The Jets took seven and a half minutes off the clock when Chad Pennington rushed the ball for a one-yard touchdown. With that rushing touchdown the Jets went up 7-6.
The Patriots had 1:49 left on the clock in the first half. Tom Brady rallied his team together and started a strong drive from their own 38-yard line. The combination of quick paced no huddle offense, and one key roughing the passer penalty on the Jets Dewayne Robertson allowed the Patriots to connect for their first and only touchdown of the game. With 11 seconds left in the half Brady connected with David Patten in the end zone. This touchdown put the Patriots up 13-7.
The third quarter proved to be a battle of the defenses. Neither team had a promising possession. The defenses forced a punt on every drive. New England ended the third quarter with a drive that lasted into the fourth. This drive looked relatively promising in comparison to any of the others in the third. Unfortunately for New England this drive ended with a fumble by Dan Klecko on the Jets 36-yard line. The Jets Eric Barton recovered the fumble.
