Issue date: 11/17/04 Section: Arts & Entertainment
On September 21, 2004 the Mexican singer Gloria Trevi was free after being incarcerated for four years and eight months. Trevi was accused of corrupting the youth and of rape. Also freed were her ex-backup singers Maria Raquenel Portillo and Marlene Calderon. Gloria Trevi had an organization of young girls who had aspirations to become singers, like their idol Gloria Trevi. Sergio Andrade, Trevi's manager and music producer, was in charge of this organization.

Trevi's destiny, according to Univision, a Spanish speaking television network, begins in 1999 when Karina Yapor's family, a 17 year-old member at the time, accused Andrade of corrupting the youth and the disappearance of Karina Yapor. A "WANTED" sign was put up on June 1999 asking people for information on Trevi, Andrade and accomplice Maria Raquenel Portillo who had left Mexico and were fugitives in Brazil.

On December 1999 Yapor finally appeared and affirmed that the accusations made against Andrade were false and that her child's father is not Andrade but a young man from Spain. Finally, in January 2000 Trevi, Andrade and Portillo were captured. After all the occurring in February 2000 Trevi gave birth to Angel Gabriel, of seven pounds and 20 inches, whose father is also Andrade.

Andrade and Trevi declared that they are innocent of the accusations of rape and corruption of the youth. In mid 2000 Karina Yapor changed her statement and said she was sick of living a lie. She affirmed that she was another victim who suffered the punishments of Andrade, who also fathered her son. Yapor aimed at Trevi as his accomplice. In July 2000 Sergio Andrade spoke out about the daughter he had with the singer. In later revelations Karina Yapor wrote book, which says that, their daughter, whose name was Ana Dalai, was asphyxiated by a punishment of Andrade.

In December 2002 Trevi, her son and Maria Portillo returned to Mexico to face justice. Christmas Eve had arrived, and a judge was getting ready to pronounce the fate of them. "I didn't expect anything more from a corrupt jury, you should be ashamed, almost Christmas..." said Trevi. The judge decided their verdict years four years and eight months later.
