Many Manhattan College students were looking forward to the event held on Friday, November 12th at Smith Auditorium. The annul Latino Fest is a night set aside in the first semester by Multicultural Student Union (MSU) to celebrate the Hispanic culture. This year, with the calibration with Commuter Student Association (CSA), MSU has truly out done itself.
Jason Mercado and Janina Palacios, President and Vice-President of MSU respectively,
David Rosado, former MSU President, and Jose Sarita, President of CSA, worked together to insure that all those who attend would have an entertaining night.
"It was the best one since I have been a student at Manhattan College," said Rosado.
Small but delicious choices of food from El Economico were offered for the attendees. There were paspillitos, fried pitas some filled with chicken, beef, or cheese. Also, there were chicharonas de pogue, which is, fried chicken and maudores, which is, fried sweet plantain, and the ever-popular flan was the choice of dessert.
As Mercado agreed, Rosado said, "We did not provide a lot of food because we wanted everyone to enjoy the evening by dancing rather then eating."
And entertained they were! As for the music, DJ Kasanova spun a variety of Spanish music, bringing many students on the dance floor. Few students grabbed a partner and showed off their moves learned at the free salsa lessons given in Plato's the past few weeks.
"Music for the night was good. They played Spanish mostly and that's what I wanted," said Sarita. "The party was club style. It was run like that from dress code with a club atmosphere."
The organizers were not happy with the DJs at first though, because they were missing in action for an hour and a half. Students started showing up from 9:00 P.M. Due to the missing DJs, however, Mercado decided to delay entrance.
Rosado said that his least favorite time was "the fact that the DJs started a hour and a half late."
