The Manhattan Lady Jasper volleyball team is having a somewhat rough season. They are now 1-5 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The team has lost to Niagra, Canisius, Marist, Rider, and St. Peter's in the MAAC conference. The only team the Lady Jaspers have won against is Loyola.

The team has performed exceptionally well over the last couple of years. They have participated and won the MAAC tournament for two years in a row. The team has the potential to play good, but they will need to start all over again next season. The team was forced to rebuild since the loss of key players like Luka Van Cauteren and other seniors last season. They recruited new and talented players and also in July of 2004 they announced Ray Green the new head coach of the team.

Green came to Manhattan College after spending three years with the women's volleyball program at Rutgers-Newark. The Lady Jaspers still have some very good experienced players that have contributed greatly to the team. They have shown leadership and great knowledge of the game. However, the team will need to concentrate on certain things in order to become the same Lady Jasper team that won the MAAC. With the MAAC tournament on the way later on this month, it is still uncertain whether or not the team will be participating at the event.

The Lady Jaspers lost in five games against their MAAC rival Marist. In that game junior Ashley Davis ranked fourth in the team in digs per game lead the jaspers in digs with a total of 29. Manhattan was down in the second game, then came back to take the lead for good against the Red Foxes. The Lady Jaspers got help in the fourth game by Lori Bambauer who had four service aces in the match but it was not enough to win it. She also leads the team in assists per game at 6.51.

The Lady Jaspers were then swept by Canisius. The scores of the games were 30-34, 30-18, and 30-27. Kim Hoffman was the Ladyjasper killer with 16 kills and 16 assists. Ashley Davis led Manhattan's defense with 16 digs. When Manhattan played Niagra they lost in four games. In the match Whitney Judkins had 15 kills for the Lady Jaspers which is a season high.

The Lady Jaspers beat Hofstra. Manhattan won the match by a score of three games to one. Hofstra evened the match in the second game but they could not hold on as the Jaspers' O'Dorisio had 11 kills to defeat Hofstra. Maggie Pfeifer also contributed to the victory with 15 kills of her own. Pfeifer ranked sixth in the MAAC with aces per game.

The Lady Jaspers had an adjusting year. Although they did will probably not make it to the MAAC like they did last year, they know will try to learn from the season. The team will play more together and have more chemistry for next year.
