Bridget Jones 2: The Edge of Reason was released into theaters on November 12, 2004. After seeing the previews for this movie, it seemed similar to the first in numerous ways. After seeing the film, these suspicions were proved correct.

The original Bridget Jones' Diary was an amazing movie. It is a story of a thirty-something woman, living in London who needs to deal with being single. It was funny and romantic. The creators would have a hard time attempting to top such a great romantic comedy. Sadly, the sequel could not go beyond the first.

Bridget Jones 2 was very similar in style to the original. Bridget (Renee Zellweger) embarrasses herself on more than one occasion while speaking in public and to people that know more about the news than her. Similarly, while the first movie dealt with her being single, this movie dealt with her possibly getting married to her boyfriend Mark (Colin Firth). Of course Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), her ex-old boss and ex-boyfriend must show up and coincidentally ends up working with her.

The downfall of the plot is how neat and tidy everything works together. The fact that Daniel gets a job working with Bridget at Sit Up Britain was too coincidental. Also, when Bridget goes oversees for work and ends up in jail, it is a little too neat that Mark is a human rights lawyer that works to get her released.

While the plot had its problems, it had good points as well. In the world of Bridget Jones, there are no happy endings. It is nice to see the insecurities that Bridget has after finally finding a boyfriend that loves her. She does not quite fit into the mold of his society and seeing how she adjusts is enjoyable. Also, more of Bridget's friends are included in this movie. They are funny as always and therefore add much humor to the film.

On an upside, the soundtrack to the movie was just as good as the original. The music adds so much to this movie just as in the original. In fact there was one very funny scene where Bridget teaches the lyrics to a certain Madonna song to numerous women who are in jail with her. The soundtrack includes Me and Mrs. Jones, Someone Like You, Let's Get it On, and Waterfalls just to name a few.

Just as the first, the acting was great. If one did not know that Renee Zellweger was American he/she would never guess that her accent was fake. Unlike some actors, she does an excellent job of keeping the accent throughout the entire movie. Also, Zellweger did a great job at not making Bridget too over the top, but true to her character. Similarly, Colin Firth was great as Mark Darcy. He was able to make Mark conservative but someone who could also love a woman like Bridget at the same time. Finally, the wonderful Hugh Grant was flawless as always. He has the ability to make the audience love him even though he is the enemy.

Overall, Bridget Jones' Diary 2 was a good film. It stayed true to the original, however the plot lacked something. Everything fit too nicely into the movie. On the other hand, true Bridget Jones fans will love it for its humor and romance.
