Although most students haven't been on campus during the winter break, the women's basketball team has been hard at work during practices and games. Most recently, the team suffered a loss to the St. Peter's Peahens on January 20th (53-40), which now puts them at 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Despite senior Serra Sangar's 14 points and 10 rebounds, the Lady Jaspers were unable to defeat St. Peter's, who are currently 6-10 and 2-5 in the MAAC.

The game, played at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, New Jersey, began with a twelve-point lead by St. Peter's without the Jaspers scoring anything for the first 6:42 of the game. The Jaspers ended the first half down eight points, but retaliated at the beginning of the second half, scoring five points in five minutes, and using it as time to attempt to catch up, bringing their game to 30-28. Manhattan, however, were unable to regain momentum for the rest of the game, as St. Peter's scored another seven points on their own without the Jaspers scoring anything. Donette (Shorty) Reed, who had three assists for the game, became the fifth Manhattan player for career assists with a total of 352.

On January 16th, the Lady Jaspers took a loss to Siena (56-46) with Sangar again leading with 14 points in the game. Manhattan began the game with a 6-2 lead but it was the only lead the Jaspers would have against the Saints. Siena began the second half with a 29-16 lead and kept the lead throughout the rest of the game. Siena started the game holding Manhattan at a 33.3% shooting range.

Against Rider on January 14th, 2005, the Lady Jaspers took a win (67-60); one of the only wins over the winter intersession break. Sangar tied her career best with a total of 24 points for the game and junior Lupe Godinez added her own career high of 13 points. In addition, senior Donette Reed added in another 12 points. Throughout several points in the game, the team leading was Manhattan and then switched back to Rider. The Lady Jaspers finally grabbed the final lead, however, with a blocked lay up attempt by Reed and two subsequent layouts by her right after. Also adding to the win was Sangar's two successful free throws, giving Manhattan that extra edge they needed to win the game.
