[b]Israel-Palestine Working for Peace [/b]
According to CNN.com, on Thursday, January 27th, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said that there could be a "historic breakthrough" regarding Israeli and Palestinian relations.

"We are monitoring recent developments in the Palestinian Authority with great interest...and it seems that there is a positive approach there regarding the war on terrorism and advancing the process," Sharon said.

He continued, "If the Palestinians take comprehensive action to stop the terrorism, violence and incitement, we will be able to move forward in contacts on implementing the road map...It would even be possible to coordinate with them on various actions regarding he disengagement plan."

Sharon wants to help create a Palestinian state in the future by removing Israelis in Gaza and some locations in the West Bank to stop attacks, which would be a major step toward peace.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is also trying to create peace. He deployed 2,000 forces into northern Gaza to end violence against Israel.

"I believe that the conditions have been created which will enable us and the Palestinians to reach a historic breakthrough in relations between us, a breakthrough which would lead towards quiet and security," Sharon said.

Sharon, who delivered this news at a builders and contractors convention in Tel Aviv said that he perceives "encouraging signs, but these maters must be put to test."

[b]Safety a Major Issue in Iraqi Election[/b]
According to CNN.com, Iraq and the United States have raised security in order to help calm the violent atmosphere, and to make sure that people are not scared to vote on Thursday.

Insurgents threatened that if a 275-seat transitional national assembly is elected, both voters and candidates are putting their lives in danger.

Minister of state for national security Kasim Dauld is reassuring that there will be strict security, stating that there will be a curfew and vehicle restrictions from Friday through Monday. He said, "We are not going to allow vehicles to reach directly to these polls. Vehicles will stay away a certain-in such distance from the polls."
