Swimming Team Fall Season Review

Last fall season the Manhattan swimming team got the season off to a good start, winning their first swim meet. They soon got a 2-2 record when they beat Sacred Heart. The score was close at 105-99. The Lady Jaspers set a record time in the individual medley and broke the old one by two seconds. Nicole Mason and Sarah Szotak set a record time for swimming for the relay team as well. The time was 2:00.44. Arduini also won in the 100 meter breast stroke with a time of 1:12.85 and the 100 meter fly in 1:04.1. Manhattan College played their match at the Riverdale Country School.
The Lady Jaspers' swim team won 79-58 over the University of Bridgeport at the Riverdale Country School with the help of Heather Kennedy with her victory in the 1000 meter freestyle. Arduini won in the 100 meter back stroke and the 200 meter freestyle in 1:07.30 and 2:10.02. Sophomore Rachel Testa of Prospect, Ct won the 100 meter breast stroke in a time of 1:18.17. Sullivan, Testa, Rooney, and LaTouche won the 200 meter Medley in a time of 2:10.06.
The Manhattan College Lady's swim team gave Canisius an upset when they came back to win the match from a thirteen point deficit. Sophomore Nicole Mason of Yorktown, NY won multiple individual events when the team beat Canisius 75-60 along with sophomore Courtney Arduini of Selkirk, NY and freshman Maura McGowan of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Nicole Mason took the 100 meter back stroke victory in 1:07.37 and she won in the fly. McGowan won in the 100 free and the 50 free in 26.61. At this point The Lady Jaspers' record was 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC.
The Lady Jaspers had a dual meet in Newark, New Jersey against NJIT and Hunter. They swept the event. At this point Manhattan College won three straight competitions to improve their record to 6-3. Mason won the individual medley competition in a time of 2:26.7, the 100 meter backstroke in 1:08.73. This was a g contribution to the victory for the 200 medley relay. Arduini won the 100 meter butterfly and the 100 meter backstroke. While swimming in the 100 meter freestyle, McGowan broke the school record for 50 meters. She swam the 100 meter freestyle in 1:01.7.
The Women's swim team swept a dual meet in Patchogue, NY against ST. Joseph's and SUNY-Old Westbury. This was their last event of the fall season. It was their fifth straight win. They clinched their winning record in the sweep. The winners for the evens were Mason, McGowan, Arduini, and Szotak.
With all of their great competition in the fall season people can only expect that the Lady Jaspers will be even better in the spring. They first have to face teams like C.W. Post, Fairfield and St. Peter's/St. Joe's before competing in the MAAC Tournament that is set to start on Feb. 16.
