All actresses gave brilliant performances in their respective roles. The nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role are Annette Benning for Being Julia, Catalina Sandino Moreno for Maria Full of Grace, Imelda Staunton for Vera Drake, Hillary Swank for Million Dollar Baby, and Kate Winslet for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Being Julia is a comedy that takes place in London during the 1930s. It tells the story of stage actors, their love lives, and the revenge that follows. Maria Full of Grace is about a girl who is willing to smuggle cocaine out of Columbia in order to escape her country. Vera Drake is a film about an abortionist whose viewpoints cause misfortune for her family. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a story about a couple that decides to have their memory erased after their relationship starts to go awry.
The nominees for Best Director are The Aviator, Million Dollar Baby, Ray, Sideways, and Vera Duke. The nominees for Best Animated Feature Film are The Incredibles, Shrek II and Sharks Tale. The Incredibles is about what superheroes must do after being forced to retire because of numerous lawsuits. The adjustment is difficult to handle from saving lives to working at a desk. Shrek II is the continuation of Shrek and Fiona's magical life with one another. How can Shrek meet her family in Happily Ever After? Finally, A Shark's Tale is the story of a friendship between a vegetarian shark, Lenny and a fish, Oscar. Lenny's brother is killed and Oscar says he did it thus becoming the most famous fish on the reef.
There is a plethora of movies nominated this year. Most likely a wide variety of movies will win. Hopefully the Academy Awards will be as entertaining as ever.
