... And You Miss, Are No Lady

Issue date: 2/9/05 Section: Perspectives
And the reason for all of this effort? To attract attention!
In the past, a girl never felt the need to expose so much in order to gain attention, but now it is expected. With the rising hemline of celebrity skirts, so many women have begun to feel that they must live up to this image. We have forgotten that the real things that matter in life are not the amount of people that are impressed by our displays of power, or beauty, but, rather, the way that we have lived our lives.
While the past may not have been perfect, we could all stand to learn a few things from prior generations. Ultimately, it comes down to treating others and yourself with the respect that we all deserve. Some may see these things as old fashioned or outdated, but in reality, we would all be happier people if we could learn to help each other out and be a little kinder. In the end, it does not matter how tough the strangers in the street think we are, or what the people in a loud, crowded, sweaty bar think of us; in reality, the only thing that really matters is how we have made ourselves feel, and how we have made the world just a little better of a place for someone else.
