The Manhattan College Lady Jaspers improved to 8-11 on the season and 4-6 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play as they edged Sienna 65-60 last Sunday, January 30th. Senior Serra Sangar had 16 points and eight rebounds as three other Lady Jaspers also hit for double figures in scoring. Whitney Cave and Katelyn Dooley each had 14 points to lead Sienna who dropped to 9-10 overall and 6-4 in the MAAC. The win tied the Lady Jaspers with Rider as they try to rise from the middle of the pack and earn a better seed for the upcoming MAAC Tournament next month.

The game was tight throughout, with the biggest lead only being eight points. That came when with the score tied at 19, Sienna went on a 12-5 run to end the first half. The Lady Jaspers were lucky to be only down by eight, considering Sienna shot 48% from the floor compared to just 36% for the Lady Jaspers and also being out shot from the free-throw line 10-1.

The second half saw the Lady Jaspers make the adjustments that they had to make. They became more aggressive and that resulted in 15 free-throw attempts, which the Lady Jaspers made 13 of including seven of eight free throws in the final two minutes. They also shot well from the three-point line, shooting 4 for 10 in the second half, 7 for 20 in the whole game. Sienna managed just three three-point shots and only went to the line seven times in the second half. They also committed 20 turnovers in the game.

The freshmen of the team contributed greatly to the win. Freshman Aubrie Dellinger had a good game for the Lady Jaspers, netting 14 points and six rebounds. Another freshman, Caitlin Flood, had a career day off the bench, scoring 12 points, her high for the season. Joann Nwafili, also a freshman, had 11 points and six rebounds. Laura Menty of Sienna chipped in 10 points and a game high 9 rebounds in the losing effort.

The Lady Jaspers still have to face Iona, Fairfield and Marist to name a few, before the MAAC Tournament.
