Men's Basketball
The Manhattan Jaspers have made it three in a row after defeating Loyola, 77-61 at Draddy Gymnasium last Wednesday, Feb. 16. Manhattan controlled the game from the very beginning. They never trailed, Loyola's defense was not tough enough to stop the Jaspers. The men's team went into the half leading Loyola by 17 points with a score of 40-23. In the early going of the second half the Jaspers led Loyola by as much as 33 points. The Jaspers were led by freshmen, C.J. Anderson 22 points, Peter Mulligan and Arturo Dubois each contributed 17.
Manhattan traveled to Fairfax, V.A. to face the George Mason Patriots on Saturday, Feb. 19. Although the Jaspers got off to a quick start in the early going of the game, they came off short at the end of regular time and lost 78-66. The Jaspers went into halftime trailing by three points, 33-30. The Patriots started the second half with a 10-4 run which made the score 43-34, however, the Jaspers started their own 13-3 run which gave them the lead 47-46 with 16:00 left on the clock. Within the last couple of minutes the Patriots led the Jaspers by 15 until they finally captured the victory. Mulligan and Anderson each score a total of 25 points in the defeat. Manhattan's overall record is 13-12.
Women's Basketball
The Lady Jaspers were defeated by Loyola, 56-43 on Friday, Feb. 18 in Baltimore Maryland. Manhattan got off to a 17-13 run over Loyola within the first 12 minutes of the game. Loyola didn't hesitate to answer back as they went on a 12-5 run over the Lady Jaspers to end the first half with a 25-22 lead. In the second half Loyola started a 12-3 run over the Jaspers to maintain the lead with a score of 37-26 and later to secure the win.
Manhattan lost its second game in a row in front of the home crowd when they competed against the Marist Red Foxes, 66-52. At the 8:12 mark in the first half, Manhattan led Marist 16-14; however, Marist managed to regain the lead and go into halftime leading the Lady Jaspers 30-27. Within five minutes of the second half, Marist started a 14-2 run over the Lady Jaspers, later in that half Marist took a 60-42 lead over Manhattan.
