Are students at Manhattan College getting the most out of their college experience? There are about 1,661 students living on campus. As for them, the life on MC is what an average student is experiencing. Living away from home, getting involved in clubs, extra-curricular activities as well as making friends and of course, getting a good college education. They are getting most of their college experience. Because this is what college is all about, going away from home, getting a taste of independence and a little flavor of the real world.

However, there are about 1,565 commuters at MC. Most of them travel from Bronx, Westchester County, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island and so on. From their point of view, college is well, a little different and unique experience. So what is it like for an average commuter to commute?

Well, take the life of Stefanie Villani, sophomore at MC. On an average day, Villani wakes up at 6:00 AM, gets dressed, and she is out the door by 7:30 AM. After a fifteen-minute drive to Manhattan College from Yonkers, Villani is ready to start her busy day. Her classes start straight from 8:30 in the morning to 4:00 in the evening, with a two hour break in between 4-6 pm, when she eats her lunch and studies for a little while. After that she is back to her classes until 7:30 PM and then is home by 8 PM.

Even though commuters do not have the busy routine of Villani, many do stay on campus for about 8-10 hours a day.

When commuters on campus were asked about their experience commuting, most of them said, "It is not bad!" Stefanie said that she has been commuting for "Two years from Yonkers."

As far as feeling involved on campus, Villani explained "Commuting does make it hard to get together with friends or do group projects for classes because we do not have the same schedule as residents. Residents usually want to meet at night, but because commuters have to travel home, they do not usually want to meet at 10 or 11 at night. I don't think that there is much anyone can do to make it easier for commuters because schedules are all different."
