On the night that was the last and final home game for Seniors Peter Mulligan and Justin Gatling, the Jaspers made a statement and posted a dominating win over Canisius last Thursday night.
Before the game Manhattan honored its two outstanding seniors who have represented Manhattan well throughout their tenure and will hopefully lead them further into the MAAC playoffs, bringinh back another MAAC Championship before their departure. The Jaspers win moved them into a tie for fourth place in the MAAC with one regular season conference game left against St. Peters before all the teams head to Buffalo next week to battle it out for the Championship.
The game started off slow with neither team taking a dominant lead, until the halfway through the first half when the Jaspers went on an 18-6 run, increasing their lead that they maintain for the rest of the game. The Jaspers continued their dominance and left the court with a 49-31 halftime lead. Never looking back, the Jaspers blasted out of the gates and increased their lead even more during the opening minutes of the second half. They increased their lead to as much as 28 points enroot to an 85-62 victory.
Standouts in the game included Freshman CJ Anderson who tallied up his eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds. The other Freshmen HYPERLINK "http://www.gojaspers.com/roster_view.cfm?roster_id=2255" Jeff Xavier and HYPERLINK "http://www.gojaspers.com/roster_view.cfm?roster_id=2267" Arturo Dubois also had strong performances. Jeff put up 11 points, three assists, and three steals while Arturo dumped in 10 points, four boards, and two blocks.
Mulligan fittingly had the standout performance on Senior night. He poured in 23 points along with 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks. Further proving why he was just recently added to the NABC District 2 Second Team. Last week he was selected by fellow member coaches of the NABC and enables him to also be added to the Division I All-American Team which will be announced at the conclusion of this season. These student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across the country and we are proud that Peter was chosen to represent Manhattan College. Good Luck to the Men's Basketball Team as they compete for the Championship this weekend. Go Jaspers!
