Manhattan College Prepares for a Week-Long Founder's Celebration

Founder's Event is a week in April devoted to the Founder of Manhattan College, Saint John Baptist De La Salle. Manhattan College was established in the year 1853. De La Salle founded major religious institute, and Pope Pius XII proclaimed him the patron saint of Christian educators. He organized and put into practice the centers for training teachers, instructing an entire class of pupils simultaneously, using French language to introduce reading and writing, grouping students according to achievement, reporting their progress on a regular basis, involving parents in the school, and giving students meaningful roles in the classroom.
Lois Harr, the director of Campus Ministry and Social Action said, "It is important to celebrate Founder's Event because it reminds us of our background and heritage. We need to know where we came from, in order to see where we are now and where we are going."
A committee of people helped organize the founder's Event together: Students, administrators, admissions, faculty, Campus Ministry and Social Action are all involved in putting the event together.
Moreover, Mrs. Harr explained that "Founder's Event used is one day event, but over the years it blossomed into one week celebration. This event reminds us of our heritage, values and our history."
So Jaspers, be on a look out for Founder's Event in April. Everyone at Manhattan College is invited to participate in this event and become a proud Lasallian.
