Kiera Fox helps Lady Jaspers go for another win
| |
The Manhattan Softball team started the season on top, winning essential games against Army, Colgate and George Washington. Since then it has been a series of ups and downs for the Lady Jaspers. After losing three consecutive games the team was making a?comeback against Yale on March 19th.??In the first game the team came determined to win. According to the gojaspers website, the team scored four runs all with two outs and sending all nine batters to the plate. On March 19th they experienced a win over Yale with their win in the first game. The success of the first game could not have been possible without the skills of Jill Medea,?who pitched all six innings for the win and posted four strikeouts.?The second game opened much like the first but this time Yale put up a?fight. Both teams played great; at the beginning of the second game it?seemed that the team would beat the Bulldogs but that all soon changed. Who would have thought that our Lady Jaspers would lose after giving us a score of 7-2 in the first game. Even after Yale finally succeeded in taking the lead of 3-2 the Lady Japers quickly took back their thunder by making two runs to make the score 4-3. Because of the success of their first game the thought of the Bulldogs winning was as impossible as Jennifer Lopez winning an Oscar for Gigli. Soon it was apparent that our team was not going to win.??Although this game was a let down, it does not go without any perks. For instance, Michelle Gutierrez gave an impressive play of a double to right center, a first in her college softball career. As the second game proceeded things started falling downhill for our Lady's. As Yale scored two more runs in the top of the sixth inning, it seemed that Manhattan had used up all of their energy and winning luck in the first game. More evidence of their new found losing streak is seen in their match against Hofstra on March 22, 2005. ?
As the game reached its fifth inning it seemed that neither team was having any luck with a score of 1-1. This quickly changed when Hofstra tapped into some hidden strength and defeated with a score of 5-1.??The team was schedule to play at Seton Hall the 24th but the game was postponed. The next game will be played at Stony Brook the 26th. Let's hope that weather cancellations and game let downs do not put a damper on the team's spirit.
