The Manhattan men's lacrosse team got off to a slow start this season. They are currently one and four. On March 10 the Jaspers went down to Piscataway, New Jersey to play Rutgers University. They suffered an 11-4 defeat to the Scarlet Knights. The Jaspers did get to within 4-2 late in the second quarter with the help of senior Eugene Tanner who had two goals and an assist. Also, Christopher Oppito had an even strength goal that he scored. However, the game opened up for the Scarlet Nights when they scored five unanswered goals. Senior Robert Busweiler from West Islip, N.Y. made 12 saves in this game.

In Delray Beach, Florida the Jaspers competed against Sacred Heart. The Jaspers fought until the end of the game but unfortunately they came up short of the victory losing 13-12. Sacred Heart had great advantage over Manhattan in the third quarter with a 13-6 score. In the last 22 minutes of the game, the Jaspers held the pioneers scoreless and posted six points on the scoreboard. The Jaspers scored first when Tanner fed the ball to Sean Crowley as he posted a point up for the team. However, Sacred Heart answered back when they scooped up a ground ball and scored on a break away. The Jaspers got that point back when Ed Kinly passed to Greg Lewis. Then the Pioneers scored three more goals during the first fifteen minutes of play. Both teams played a good game but Manhattan College suffered the defeat.

On March 19, the Jaspers staged a late rally once again and lost to Delaware. They played at Rullo Stadium in Newark, Delaware. Senior Otto had a career high three goals in the game. He also scored his 100th goal as a Jasper after scoring the first goal of the game. Tanner had a man-up goal that put Manhattan College ahead 3-1. However, Delaware answered back with four straight goals with a 5-3 lead before going into half-time.

With only 14 seconds into the fourth quarter, Otto scored on a man-up opportunity. Delaware answered back with a goal of their own making their lead 9-6. Then Junior Lewis scored an unassisted goal for Manhattan. Christopher Oppito found Otto and passed him the ball where he scored his third goal of the game. Oppito had three assists during the game. Sophomore Justin Henry had eleven saves for Manhattan.

The record may not show it, but Manhattan is playing with potential. In order for the team to win more games, they have to reach down farther. Also, the season just began and there are still a lot more games to play before one can judge how far the team will go.
