On Thursday, 31 March Manhattan students filled the Smith Auditorium eagerly awaiting to bid on Manhattan's most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes at the People Auction. The People Auction was an event sponsored by the Alpha Upsilon Pi Sorority at Manhattan College to raise money for Breast Cancer awareness and research. It was a night full of fun and laughter for all its patrons and participants.

The evening began with a dessert buffet and a DJ filling student's musical requests as people began to arrive. Once the auditorium was filled and everyone was seated, the evening's auctioneer, Casey Lutz, who is also the President of Alpha Upsilon Pi began the evening's ceremonies. Lutz politely reminded those in attendance to keep their Manhattan College values in mind and to keep the evening clean and respectful. Lutz also did a superb job of acting as the auctioneer and emcee for the evening as she captured the audience's enthusiasm and introduced each person with a natural wit and excitement.

The auction's contestants consisted of an eclectic group of male and female students and faculty of Manhattan College. Three freshmen even went as far as dressing in sharp tuxes in order to win over the unsuspecting audience. Audiences applauded as student after student strutted down the runway. A favorite of the evening was the Manhattan College volleyball team who promised to clean the winning bidder's apartment, the highest bid coming in at 55 dollars. However, the audience was completely won over by Chocolate and Vanilla Swirl, a charming group of upperclassmen, as they cheered and clapped for the humorous threesome as they danced on stage. Another high bidder was a faculty member offering a free ride to Newark Airport, a practical and useful service for students to avoid the burden of a long subway ride or expensive cab trip.

The auction was not only entertaining for the Manhattan College student body, but it was also an incredible success. The auction raised 650 dollars, a significant increase from last year's total of 400 dollars. Lutz told the Quadrangle, "Hopefully this trend continues and next year we can raise even more!" She went on to explain, "Everyone had a great time, and all the participants looked great and presented themselves very well on stage. I'm very proud of this event...and that we could do this... for the American Cancer Society." Alpha Upsilon Pi's auction certainly showcased amazing dedication and service to the community.

The People Auction was a vastly successful fundraiser and event this semester. Attendance was high and contestants and audiences alike were enthusiastic for the evening's festivities. It was a night of laughter and fun for everyone in Smith Auditorium, adding another event to Manhattan College's long list of successful fundraisers and community service projects.
