Both the men's and women's lacrosse teams had strong weekends and are looking to improve upon their slow starts from last week. The men's teams improved to 2-4 and the team captured their 1st MAAC conference victory of the season with a win over Siena. While the women haven't quite won yet, but had a close game and are showing much improvement as of late. The women's 1st conference game was suppose to be against Iona, but was postponed due to inclimate weather.

The women unfortunately dropped a close game last week to Wagner. Leading most of the way they lost it in the final seconds and were defeated 14-13. But the lady Jaspers put forth a strong effort in the loss. Looking like they had their first victory in the bag, the strong Wagner offense kept attacking and were able to stifle the Jaspers defense. They tied it with just 3 minutes and took the lead with about a minute to go. Leaving the Jaspers with virtually no time to make a run and come back. Strong performances were put forth by Victoria Carman and Molly Pheterson. Carman notched 4 goals and 2 assists while Pheterson had a hat trick. Carman's efforts also earned her MAAC player of the week honors. Carmen a MAAC preseason 1st team all-star pick leads the Jaspers in goals and points so far this year. Senior Jamie Carter also had a good game tailing 3 assists. The Ladies next game is this Friday down in Maryland against Mt. Saint Mary's.

The men's team did the exact opposite from the women in earning their victory in come from behind fashion. They'll take them anyway they can of course. A win is a win in everyone's book. Lead by Senior Justin Otto, the Jaspers were able to overcome the 2 goal lead the Saints had established when they knotted it up at 5-5 just a minute into the last quarter with a slashing goal by Nick Crowley. Two more goals came complimentary by the efforts of Otto and Sophomore Jeremy Marrano. Marrano's ended up being the game winner in the end. Other goals were scored by Chris Oppito and Christian Schaefers.

Manhattan Sophomore goalie Justin Henry turned in a strong performance with 11 saves and held off the Saints in the final minutes to secure the victory for the Jaspers. Henry earned the MAAC defensive player of the week. A great honor considering it was only his 1st win. Hope there's many more to come. Manhattan's Otto was also awarded with Co-Offensive player of the week. His two goals and one assist were key in the Jaspers win. Their next game is against Marist this Saturday. Hopefully both teams can keep rolling and do well next week.
