Basketball season is just around the corner as the November starts. The Manhattan College Jaspers look to begin a new era in Jaspers Basketball under Head Coach Barry Rohrssen. This basketball season will be the Jaspers 101st season at Manhattan.
On October 24, 2006, MAAC media day was held at the theater in Madison Square Garden. According to Gojaspers.com, the Jaspers were predicted to finish sixth out of ten teams, not a lot of respect for the defending MAAC regular season champions.
"Someone else's judgment, we have to prove ourselves during the regular season," said junior forward Arturo Dubois on the Jaspers predicted finish.
In addition to losing head coach Bobby Gonzalez; the Jaspers also lost four seniors. Sophomore members Jeff Xavier, CJ Anderson, and CJ Lee all transferred before the season. The Jaspers also lost all of their coaches from last season, with the exception of administrative assistant Chris Buckley.
Despite the vast changes, Dubois still feels optimistic about the upcoming season. "I feel good about the upcoming season, there are lots of good freshmen on the team and we have good coaches to lead us."
Arturo Dubois was the third member of the proclaimed "Super Sophomores," a group that included Jeff Xavier and CJ Anderson. Dubois was the third leading scorer on the team last season, averaging fifteen points per game in 31 games. Dubois also led the team with 265 total rebounds last season, an average of 8.5 rebounds per game. Dubois will be looked upon to help lead the Jaspers this upcoming season, along with senior forward Guy Ngarndi.
Dubois's stellar play last season got him recognized as a First Team Preseason All- MAAC selection. Last season,he was on the Third Team Preseason ALL-MAAC. He finished last season with a Second Team All-MAAC selection.
"I am truly honored to be part of the team. This is what you work for everyday," said Dubois on being selected to the team, "I am honored to be considered one of the top players in the MAAC."
